McMahon Award
Andy McMahon Memorial Award for Outstanding Spirit and Dedication to Notre Dame Figure Skating
Andy McMahon was a 1935 graduate of the University of Notre Dame with a degree in Accounting. He worked as a CPA in Providence, Rhode Island and with his wife Helen (SMC ’35) raised his three daughters – Alice, Louise and Linda (SMC ’74). His passion and dedication to his family and the University of Notre Dame was infectious. He also loved watching his grandchildren figure skate as they developed a passion for the sport and competition. After Andy passed away in 2000, his family established the Andy McMahon Family Endowment for Excellence in Figure Skating to help support Notre Dame Figure Skating. Notre Dame Figure Skating honors his memory with the presentation of this award.
The recipient of the McMahon Award exhibits the characteristics of spirit and dedication that Andy valued and exemplified. The recipient also personifies one of Andy’s favorite mottos – “Work hard, play hard.”
